What to Expect in Our 2-Day Class 2-3 Whitewater Kayak Clinic
Day One – Learning the Fundamentals
- Equipment Setup & Safety: Begin your adventure with a comprehensive introduction to your kayak. At Poconos Kayak School, we supply high-quality, well-maintained equipment—including premium whitewater kayaks, paddles, life jackets, helmets, and dry bags—so you can focus solely on learning. Safety protocols are a top priority, and you’ll learn everything from proper seating and posture to emergency procedures like wet exits and self-rescue techniques.
- Basic Paddling Techniques: Our certified instructors will coach you through the essential paddling strokes needed to maneuver your kayak effectively. You’ll learn how to paddle forward, steer correctly, and maintain balance in a moving river. We emphasize skill-building through demonstrations, detailed explanations, and plenty of practice.

Recommended items to bring:
- Bottled water and Lunch (sandwiches, snacks, drinks, dry storage ill be provided)
- High SPF sunscreen (the sun reflecting off the water increases sun exposure)
- Water shoes, closed toe or strapped sandals. (NO Flip flops they WILL fall off)
- Eyeglass or Sunglasses Strap (if applicable), Hat with visor (if sun sensitive)
- Bathing suit (worn under shorts and a t shirt)
- Any personal medications or necessary nutritional supplements.
- In the event of cloudy, rainy and/or cold conditions a windbreaker or rain jacket, fleece and a wool sweater or technical top. Do not wear cotton clothing in cooler weather!
